  • I found these paper sacks at Wal-Mart near the wrapping paper. They are made by a Honolulu company called Great Lines.

Directions:

1. Figure out how wide you want the collar of the shirt to be (mine was 1″) and cut out a scrap piece of paper to equal the same length and width of the collar. This will be used to figure out how you want the collar to look and allow you to measure how much to cut on each side.

2. Using the scrap paper, fold each end diagonally down into a V shape to form the collar.

3. Crease and mark the collar folds. Measure your marks on both sides and average it out if they’re uneven.

4. Measure, trace, and cut both sides of the bag.

5. Carefully open the bag and fill it with goodies.

6. Glue the top and sides of the bag (see pic) to make it easier for you to fold the collar. Let dry.

7. Fold the collar and glue. Ta-Da! You’ve just made a Aloha Shirt Favor Bag!

You can even add sleeves and an origami tie if you wanna get fancy.

Sleeves:

For the sleeves, I trimmed the bag down and cut squares out of the excess paper. I positioned the squares into a diamond shape and glued half of it in between the sides of the bag.

Tie:

Anyone can make this cute origami tie using only a square piece of paper.

1. Start with your square piece of paper. In these pictures, I am using 5″ x 5″. The smaller dark blue tie is 4″ x 4″. (Don’t pay attention to any of the other creases on the paper. The only big origami paper I had handy came folded up in a box.)

2. Fold the top left corner of the paper to match up with the bottom right corner, creating a triangle. Crease and open again.

3. Using the side of the paper that you don’t want showing, fold the corner edge to match up with the diagonal crease.

4. Repeat on the other side. Your paper should now be shaped like a kite.

5. Flip your paper over. You’ll now work on making the “knot” part of the tie.

6. Fold the top part over about 1/3 of the way down.

7. Take the point you just folded and fold it back up towards the top.

8. Grab the triangle you created from step 7 and the flap from step 6 and fold both up along the imaginary dotted line in picture 7.

9. Turn the paper over so you can see the back again.

10. Now, you have the make everything a bit slimmer. Take both the “tie” and “knot” sections and fold them in towards the center.

11. Repeat on both sides. You can tape or glue these down if you want.

That’s it! Isn’t that the easiest origami ever? If you want to use the tie on your aloha shirt, just attach it so that it’s slightly underneath the collar.
